Polaroid: More than meets the eye

I've read about the SX-70 on many occasions before. Learning all kinds of neato-factoids such as it was the first SLR from Polaroid. And that it folded into a compact shape. What I never would have guessed is how cool this little guy really is. I was able to get my hands on one from a second hand (I realize how many times I've used hand this sentence: that makes 3) store on Hawthorne Blvd.

It really is a Transformer on it's own right. Granted it would be more worthless than when Megatron used to turn into a gun. But from a novelty sized Zippo lighter to a Polaroid Land Camera (factoid #2, I always thought land camera was in reference to the landscape design of the early Polaroid cameras. When in fact they were named after Dr. Land) is probably one of the coolest things I have ever witnessed.

And without a doubt it is also the most beautiful camera I have ever owned. Polaroid has always been more about the instant picture and glamor of photography. Which some may say could be attributed to the low image quality of the instant photo. But this takes camera design to a whole other level. Made from stainless steel and soft brown leather it can be taken to a fancy dinner party and not skip a beat.

Alas, I have no film for it, and probably won't unless "The Impossible Project" pulls through. But it is still a nice shelf piece.
